The Biostrap EVO Active Set is your personal health monitoring suite. It is a complete set from Biostrap and includes all 3 of Biostrap's analytics products: 1. the EVO wristband, 2. the Activity Pod, and 3. the HRM chest strap or wristband. Regarding 1: The EVO wristband is a sleep tracker & health tracker. It measures and analyzes comprehensive information about your sleep and health. Re 2: The fitness tracker "Activity Pod". This movement tracker captures all movement data for comprehensive and professional movement analysis. To 3. the chest band or bracelet incl. heart rate monitor (HRM) takes a detailed heart data measurement. The Biostrap EVO is a sleep tracker and at the same time a health tracker in the form of a bracelet health and your sleep. The results are recorded and analyzed. They can be viewed at any time via the Biostrap app - the sleep app/ fitness app/ health app - . In this way, Biostrap EVO provides you with individual and actionable insights into your sleep and health.

The Activity Pod is a motion analysis device. The fitness tracker is an add-on from Biostrap and is conveniently attached to the shoe so that all movement data is recorded for a comprehensive movement analysis. The results can also be viewed via the Biostrap app - the fitness app/ sleep app/ health app.

The chest strap/bracelet incl. HRM meter. The chest strap/bracelet enables an accurate analysis of heart health. It accurately measures heart rate, heart rate variability and calories burned. When purchasing, choose one of the two possible variants (chest strap or bracelet).

Biostrap Evo - The sleep tracker, health tracker, fitness tracker - product instructions for use and commissioning:
Best suited for monitoring sleep, rest and meditation.

Initial Charging:

Make sure to charge your Biostrap EVO before pairing it with the Biostrap app and using it for the first time. Your Biostrap EVO should be at least 50% charged before you go to bed and start recording your sleep. The light on the charger will glow white/blue when it is connected to the mains. You can charge your EVO in the harness or alone. When you place the device on the charger, the white/blue light turns orange, indicating that the device is charging. The lights will flash or remain white/blue if the device is not charging properly or if it is not placed on the charger properly.

Download the Biostrap App - the sleep app/ fitness app/ health app:

Download the Biostrap app from either the App Store for iOS or the Play Store for Android.

Create your Biostrap profile and pair your Evo:

To create your account, turn on your phone's Bluetooth, open the Biostrap app, and select "Create Account". Select which set you purchased, then enter your full name, email address, and desired Password. Follow the instructions and answer the questions on the screen.

Pair your EVO Biostrap:

To pair your EVO, select "Locate Nearby Devices" and wait for your phone to find the Biostrap. When pairing is complete, the red light on the Biostrap EVO sensor will flash a few times to confirm that pairing was successful.

Recording your sleep:

Make sure your wristband is at least 50% charged before you go to bed. The Biostrap can automatically detect when you fall asleep and wake up. However, you can also start and stop recording manually. To manually record your sleep, select "Record" at the bottom of the main dashboard, then "Record" under Sleep. After waking up, open the Biostrap app, tap "Record" at the bottom, and then tap the pink stop button in the upper right corner. Now take off your wristband and let it sync with your phone. Leave your phone next to your device while it syncs - this is the ideal time to charge your Biostrap. After your data is synced, it will be processed on our servers, and once the processing is complete, your sleep score will be determined. After 5 nights of data collection, your recovery score will also be unlocked.

How to wear the Biostrap Evo correctly

To get reliable data readings from your wrist, make sure you wear the Biostrap device on your wrist properly. Wear the device on top of your wrist. For best results, the back of the device should be in contact with your skin for functions such as heart rate measurement. Make sure your wristband is not too tight. Wear it loosely enough to allow it to move back and forth on your wrist. Wear the Biostrap device on the top of your wrist, at least one finger width above your wrist bone.

Remove the device periodically to allow your skin to breathe. If you feel discomfort or irritation, loosen the band, and if this continues, give your wrist a break by taking it off for a longer period of time.

Periodically clean your band with a soap-free cleanser (like Cetaphil) or an alcohol wipe. If your device is wet or sweaty, take it off after your activity and dry it completely. (See video for more information).

Before you can use your Biostrap device, you must connect it to your Biostrap account and a phone or tablet. When you connect your device, you can transfer (or sync) data back and forth with your Biostrap.

Battery: check the remaining battery charge.

It's easy to keep your Biostrap devices charged!
We recommend charging your device daily and keeping the battery above 20% at all times.
You can check the battery status of your devices at any time on the settings page in the Biostrap app.

With normal use, you can expect the following:

1-2 days of use with your Biostrap EVO. It is completely normal for the device to stop charging before it reaches 100% and settle between 90-99%.

Bluetooth: If you have problems with the connection, try the following steps!

Android users: make sure location services are enabled before trying to connect your devices.
Place the device on the charging dock.
Wait a few minutes for the battery to charge (orange light).
Go back to the Biostrap app and check that your devices are connected
Turn on the Bluetooth
iOS users: go to the iPhone's settings.
Click on Bluetooth
Turn it OFF
Turn it ON now
Go back to the Biostrap app and check if your devices are connecting.

If still not connecting, then quit the Biostrap app completely and restart it. Then see if your devices are connected.

Alternatively, you can try the following: turn off Bluetooth on your phone, turn off your phone, turn your phone back on, turn Bluetooth back on. Go back to the Biostrap app and check if your devices are connected.

There are 4 stages of sleep:

Wakefulness
Light
REM (rapid eye movement)
Deep

(The Biostrap algorithm counts REM and deep sleep together under deep sleep).

What happens in each stage:

Wakefulness:

Brain waves begin to slow down
Mild muscle twitching may occur
Heartbeat, breathing and eye movements slow down
Brain waves transition to alpha and light theta status.

Light sleep:

The body continues to relax
Core temperature drops 1-2 degrees
Heartbeat and breathing slow down even more
Brain waves transition into deeper theta phases

REM sleep:

Dreams occur
Arm and leg muscles become paralyzed to prevent you from acting out your dream
Cleansing of the short-term Memory

A few useful statistics about sleep:

Most adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep for optimal performance.
According to the CDC, 1 in 3 adults don't get enough sleep
According to sleep.org, we dream 4-6 times per night, but 95-99% of our dreams are forgotten the next morning.
If you fall asleep within a few minutes of your head hitting the pillow, it may be a sign of sleep deprivation. As a rule, it should take 10-15 minutes to fall asleep.

Sleep Disorder Statistics:

A lack of sleep is associated with an increased risk of obesity, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and even stroke
A lack of sleep ages us and can weaken the immune system, making us more susceptible to infections, viruses and bacteria.

According to one study, lack of sleep can cause the following:

Involuntary microsleep
Attention to intense performance becomes unstable, with increased errors of omission and commission.
Cognitive slowing occurs during high tempo tasks, while time pressure increases cognitive Errors
Reaction time slows down
Performance on short-term recall of working memory decreases
Performances requiring divergent thinking deteriorate
Learning (learning) of cognitive tasks is reduced
Increase in errors in suppressing responses in tasks requiring normal, mainly prefrontal cortex function.

What affects sleep:

Everything you do and are exposed to while awake can affect your sleep: light exposure, stress management, exercise, diet, hydration, social interaction, supplements/medications, length of time using technology, sun exposure, mental health, exposure to environmental toxins (mold, lead...).

What effects do hormones have on sleep:

Melatonin (the sleep hormone): it is produced in the pineal gland of the brain, which is responsible for regulating the sleep cycle. It plays an important role in the circadian rhythm by increasing at night before bedtime and decreasing after waking.
Blue light (especially just before bedtime) can suppress melatonin and disrupt circadian rhythms, negatively affecting sleep.
Cortisol (a stress hormone): its cycle is opposite to that of melatonin - it decreases before bedtime and increases upon waking. An elevated stress environment can cause cortisol levels to remain elevated throughout the night, which can lead to a noticeable decline in sleep quality.
Testosterone: In men, testosterone levels peak in the middle of the night, so men who do not get enough sleep have lower testosterone levels, which can trigger a domino effect of health complications and faster aging.
Leptin (satiety hormone) & Ghrelin (the hunger hormone): these two hormones are responsible for regulating appetite. Naturally, leptin should be elevated at night to tell the brain and body that it has all the energy it needs to recover, while ghrelin is decreased. However, studies have shown that too little sleep leads to a decrease in leptin and an increase in ghrelin, which increases appetite, making you feel hungrier during the day.
Human Growth Hormone: HGH promotes muscle growth, strength and athletic performance and aids in recovery from injury and illness. The majority of HGH is released during deep sleep. Poor sleep quality can reduce your body's production of HGH, affecting your recovery, performance, and energy levels, and making you more prone to weight gain.
