EKG (electrocardiogram)

An EKG (electrocardiogram) is an examination method for measuring the electrical activity of the heart (heart action). Put simply, the heartbeat is measured. With every heartbeat, an electrical impulse (excitation wave) passes through the heart. This causes the heart muscle to contract and pump blood to the body. A doctor can use the electrical activity of the heart to identify heart conditions such as irregular heartbeat.
