Propeaq – Innovation in Light Glasses and Circadian Rhythm Support

Propeaq is a brand of the Dutch company Chrono Eyewear BV, specializing in smart, wearable solutions that support the body’s natural circadian rhythm through targeted light exposure. With over 25 years of experience in chronobiology and light therapy, Propeaq develops innovative blue light glasses that combine integrated LED technology with intelligent app control.

The products are designed for people with irregular daily routines or specific demands – such as shift workers, frequent travelers, athletes, or anyone who wants to enhance their focus, sleep quality, and energy levels naturally. The targeted use of blue light at the right time can help stabilize the biological rhythm, reduce jet lag, improve daily structure, and promote overall well-being.

One of the key features is the TimeTooler app, which creates personalized light exposure plans based on your goals, travel schedule, or chronotype. The app connects via Bluetooth to the glasses and guides you through the recommended usage – e.g., before flights, during night shifts, or in preparation for important events.

Whether in sports, at work, or while traveling – Propeaq stands for modern, science-based solutions to support alertness, sleep, and energy levels – all without medication.

Scientific Background of Blue Light Therapy

Numerous studies have shown that light – especially in the blue spectrum – directly influences our internal clock. Morning blue light can suppress melatonin production while boosting activating hormones such as cortisol. These effects are particularly valuable in cases of irregular sleep patterns, jet lag, shift work, or neurological conditions.

Application of Blue Light Glasses in Parkinson’s Disease

People with Parkinson’s disease often suffer from non-motor symptoms such as sleep disturbances, daytime sleepiness, or depressive moods – all of which can significantly impact quality of life. Studies suggest that targeted blue light exposure during the day may support circadian regulation and well-being.

In a study (Smilowska et al., 2019), 74% of participants reported improvements in sleep, fatigue, or mood after regular use of blue light glasses. Usage was typically twice daily for 30–60 minutes. The glasses achieved a median System Usability Score of 70/100, and 84% said they would recommend them. Reported side effects were minimal.

Blue Light Glasses for Night Shift Work

A controlled study with 86 security staff (Smolders et al., 2021) demonstrated that blue light exposure during night shifts significantly improved alertness, mood, and cognitive performance. Participants wore the glasses for 30 minutes during the early night hours. Results suggest that wearable light solutions like Propeaq can help mitigate the negative health effects of shift work and support a more stable sleep-wake rhythm.

Blue Light Glasses for ADHD & Delayed Sleep-Phase Syndrome (DSPS)

About 80% of people with ADHD show signs of a delayed sleep-wake cycle (DSPS), making it difficult to fall asleep and wake up in the morning. Structured morning light exposure can help stabilize these rhythms.

Propeaq combines morning blue light with evening reduction via orange-tinted lenses – a principle used in the 21-day protocol. When combined with a gradual shift in bedtime, this can lead to improved sleep, focus, and emotional balance.

According to Prof. Dr. Sandra Kooij, a leading expert in adult ADHD, recent studies (e.g. Van Andel et al., in preparation) show that targeted blue light exposure can improve daily structure and reduce ADHD symptoms.

Propeaq in Daily Life – Student Experience

In everyday settings, Propeaq has proven helpful too. In a real-life student testimonial, a user describes how the glasses supported her during stressful university periods. By using the blue light in the morning and orange filters at night, she experienced greater alertness, focus during study hours, and better evening wind-down.
