Product Description

Upper arm blood pressure monitor OMRON HBP-1320

The OMRON HBP-1320 is a fully automatic blood pressure monitor for measuring blood pressure in medical environments such as doctor's surgeries, nursing homes or clinics. It has a 4-button design for intuitive operation and a backlit display with large digits for easy reading. The HBP-1320 can detect the occurrence of irregular heartbeats to identify such changes and enable further diagnosis.

The monitor is supplied with two disinfectable upper arm blood pressure cuffs that can be easily replaced. Additional cuffs are available for arm circumferences from 12 cm to 50 cm.

Non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) Explanation

Principle of non-invasive blood pressure measurement (oscillometric method):

The pulse generated by the contraction of the heart is used as the pressure in the cuff to measure blood pressure. When the cuff placed around the upper arm is sufficiently pressurised, the blood flow stops but the pulse is still present and the pressure in the cuff oscillates. As the pressure in the cuff gradually decreases, the oscillation of the pressure in the cuff increases and reaches a peak. As the pressure in the cuff continues to fall, the oscillation decreases after its peak.

The pressure in the cuff and the ratio of the increase and decrease of the oscillation in the cuff are recorded, calculations are made and the blood pressure value is determined. The pressure in the cuff when the oscillation increases sharply corresponds to the systolic pressure, and the pressure in the cuff when the oscillation decreases sharply corresponds to the diastolic pressure.

In addition, the pressure in the cuff is measured when the oscillation reaches its peak and is referred to as the mean pulse pressure. The oscillometric method does not determine the blood pressure value immediately, as an automatic blood pressure monitor with microphone does in the auscultatory method. Instead, the value is determined from a series of changes, as explained above. It is therefore less susceptible to external interference, for example from electrical scalpels or high-frequency electrical Instruments.
