Innovative Technology for Brain Activity Analysis
The FNIRS sensor (Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) is a compact and user-friendly device that detects the reflection of red and infrared light in cortical tissue. Using two LEDs – one in the red and one in the infrared spectrum – it enables non-invasive measurement of local blood oxygen saturation. This allows conclusions to be drawn about the activity of perfused tissue, for example, to analyze specific brain regions.
The reflected light signals are captured by a photodiode, digitized, and transmitted via an SPI interface. Additionally, the collected data can be used to derive heart rate information.
The sensor was developed in collaboration with the research company Charles River Analytics to provide a compact and cost-efficient FNIRS measurement solution with high data quality.
